Boldness and distraction

a spiral of French knots

There's been no time for painting so far this year.  During my free moments lately, I find comfort in stitching.  And I find that my stitches, which were very tentative at first, are becoming bolder.

Things are still not back to normal here.  I'm still very distracted.  All in knots.  There's little time for blogging while I spend as much time as possible with our old Beau.  Looking deeply into his eyes, waiting for him to tell me when he is ready to go.  He may still rebound.  I hope so. . .

The flower on my muslin has chosen to be a lotus, a very symbolic flower, which stands for rebirth and enlightenment in some cultures.  Very appropriate for me right now, I think.

The spiral of tiny star-shaped stitches has overshadowed the ink, which whispered "begin begin begin" when I first started working on this piece.  If you look closely, though, you can still see glimpses of those first whispers on the cloth.

But in the center, the embroidered word has become bolder.  I'm not sure if the spiral begins with the word and works its way outward, or spirals inward toward the word.  Both, maybe.

I've never really had one word that spurred me on for an entire year.  This year might be different.  I think "Begin" is a perfect word for this year.  This year I'll focus on beginning all the things I've put off for years.

In fact, it might be my word for life.  Begin.

Angela - your stitches are wonderful. 'Begin' what a great word - hopeful & inspiring.

What a handsome fellow Beau is - such wisdom in that face. I know how hard it is to lose a pet. I still expect to see Merlin in all his usual places. Watson's puppy energy helps - I hope Beau does re-bound. I'm sure if love could do that there would be no question about recovery.

The time to paint will 'begin' again - meanwhile keep stitching . . .

My heart goes out to you as I read about Beau. Treasure your days and moments. I said goodbye to my Lily in the summer of 2010. We knew for days ahead that the time was coming. The moments are precious and so few.

angela, this embroidery is fantastic. it's so obvious you are stitching more than stitches

i'm pretty sure i understand about beau completely. we let stella go just a month ago now, and sometimes i look back thinking it was a mistake. but i know better. i know she was uncomfortable and it couldn't improve. she was embarrassed a few times. and her world was not full of the joy she had shared with us.

so maybe i am saying you'll know when the time has come. you won't want it to be so, that's for sure, and beau won't either.

i also want you to know that many people who know us and stella felt we were waiting too long. i'm glad JB and i didn;t let that push us before we and stella was ready.

if i can help in any way, angela, please know i will.

love
kj

Hi Angela, your embroidery is so beautiful. I really like the combo of writing and stitching. Can't wait to see it finished.
Begin is a word that covers alot, good luck with everything.
Take good care!

Angela, your stitching is so beautiful and I love the "Begin"...very small but powerful word!

My heart breaks for you regarding Beau. We are in the same situation with our Finley. His cancer, at the moment, seems to be in a quiet state of remission, but we know that will not last too long. Taking it one day at a time and loving the heck out of him while we do. I wish for you that Beau still has many good days.

As for Pinterest? Lots of tumblr
pics, etc., have been reposted there and are amazing to see.

Hugs

I will be thinking of you and your doggy. My heart goes out to you. I finally got a dog a year and half ago and I keep I can't help but think our time will be too short. Dogs are so incredible and they just don't live long enough.

Hugs Angela!
