Back. . . . in 1980

I'm back. I think I'm back, anyway.  My camera didn't want to work for a while.  When it decided to cooperate again, it decided it liked it better in 1980 than 2012, and it's been dating all photos accordingly. The photos above were automatically dated January 1, 1980, although they were taken just last week.  I can't figure out how to convince the camera that it's 2012, so welcome to January 1, 1980.  The pace is slower here in 1980.  I think I might stay . . .

So anyway, I've had this idea in my head for a while.  While repurposing several very old jeans, I decided to tear out the seams.  They are so lovely and worn.   I just let the fabric tear where it wanted to, and I really liked the uneven ragged edges.  I attached them to a red shop rag with red embroidery floss.  Perfectly matching red floss, too, I might add.  I love it when that happens!

Now the fun begins!

I've been happily researching all different kinds of embroidery techniques and designs, and I'll begin stitching madly on this as soon as I recover a bit from the information overload.  I don't want to over-think it.  I want it to be more intuitive, like this piece, which I stitched earlier this year.

In the mean time, I might have to paint something.  Who knows?

  1. I was chuckling pretty good Angela. 1980. Well, as my memory serves me, it was a fun year. I am sure of this because I was 12. :)
It will be interesting to see what comes of your jean scraps.

  6. I love old jeans and have such a difficult time parting with them! I think it I could upcycle every part of the jean into something else, I would be a happy soul. You have inspired me to be more creative with those seams!!!!!
