"She, Emerging"
mixed media
on 16 x 20 wrapped canvas
I think this is the finished painting. :)
Thanks to everyone who offered tips for how I should protect the oil pastel!!! They were all wonderful suggestions, and I've decided to try each of them over the next few paintings. I'll let you know how it goes.
For this painting, I applied a thin layer of soft gel matte medium, and I'm really very happy with the results. The oil pastel is now well-protected and no longer smudges. Yay!
I've made a few other changes to the painting since the last post, and I think it's more balanced now. She looks quite happy, don't you think?
Creating this painting has been a wonderful experience.
I feel like I'm emerging, too. :)
well done, and I am intrigued by the birds, I am sure they are very symbolic to you... one looks as if it is in this realm and one is otherworldly...
ReplyDeleteThank you Caterina! the birds both just *appeared* while I was in the zone of painting. They weren't planned at all. I really like the idea of one of the birds being of this world, and one of the *otherworld*. Now you've got me thinking. . . :)
DeleteAngela - I love this piece - she not only looks like she is emerging - she looks like she has given birth to something wonderful. A truly transcendental painting.

DeleteGreat to see the finished and evocative piece Angela! And I love the name :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Deborah! :)
Deletefun to flick back and forth between this and the last post to compare the finished painting with the work in progress. I like how you resolved things. xxoo, sus
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan! xoxo
DeleteLovely! I like the recurring use of the spiral pattern and the lovely birds.
ReplyDeleteThank you Juliet! Since starting to paint, I've discovered that spirals are my favorite pattern, and now I've noticed that I'm drawn to birds, especially red ones. :)
DeleteAngela, hello! Emergence, so many of us are feeling that this week. Right now the sun is emerging through the fog and the pines and I need to get outside and take a walk with my dogs. Your painting is still wonderful!!!
ReplyDeleteroxanne
Thank you Roxanne! I feel like I'm emerging from a bit of a fog myself this week. I can't believe it's February already! :)
DeleteHi, Angela. Lovely and thoughtful painting. I like spirals as well. They are a bit of a paradox--turning in and dead-ending or turning out and unfurling.
ReplyDeletebest, nadia
Thank you for stopping by, Nadia! That paradox you mentioned about the spiral is one of the reasons I find this ancient symbol so intriguing, too.
DeleteWishing you all the best, as well!
I like the stained glass quality, both in the colors and light, and in the texture of the gesso. It would be so interesting to know how you view yourself as an artist, at the beginning of a meaningful piece like this, and when it's finished--what you learn, how you evolve, emotionally, artistically, spiritually, with a painting or a series of paintings. So very fine.
ReplyDeleteDiane
Thanks so much for your continued encouragement, Diane. Creating this piece has indeed been very meaningful to me. I've recently realized that much of what I've painted in the last few years has been extremely autobiographical and cathartic. When I feel ready, I may write more about it.

I can't see the painting--just a white background with a question mark in the middle. I clicked on it, but nothing loaded.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you're having a problem seeing the image, Snowbrush. I haven't had a problem, and nobody else has mentioned it to me. Maybe it's a problem with your computer? Were you able to see any other images here? I hope it's a temporary problem, whatever it is. Thanks for stopping by, anyway!
Deleteshe/you are beautiful Angela!!! happy valentine's day!
ReplyDeleteThank you Laura! Happy Valentine's Day to you!
